The Government of the United States continues working through the U.S. Agency for International Development to enhance capacity building in support of private sector participation in Nigeria’s power sector.

(Abuja, NIGERIA and New York, NEW YORK; 10 May 2011) – Sesame Street, the longest street in the world, has arrived in Nigeria bringing new Muppet friends like Kami and Zobi, familiar and furry faces like Elmo and Grover, and engaging educational lessons to children and families across Nigeria.

On May 16, the United States Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Terence P. McCulley joined President Goodluck Jonathan to formally launch the final report of the 2010 Nigeria Education Data Survey and Digest of Education Statistics (NEDS) in Abuja.

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and Chevron Nigeria Limited signed a $50 million dollar agreement to create opportunities for residents in the Niger Delta region to improve agricultural development, build the capacity of local government and civil society organizations and promote conflict resolution..

The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), with Diamond Bank Plc and ACCION Microfinance Bank Limited, today announced the signing of a Development Credit Authority (DCA) guarantee of $8.7 million to support Nigeria’s private health sector. This will improve reproductive and maternal health services in the country.

U.S. Ambassador Robin Renée Sanders said today that “the United States Government is honored to help Nigeria find a way to generate the electricity demanded by the Nigerian people, through the private sector.”
